Curriculum & Standards

As schools reexamine their Social Studies curriculum, the Heritage Center Museum and Heritage Center of Lancaster County are available to assist with the challenge. Our goal is to identify points in the curriculum that are suited to a local history component and recommend ways to use local history resources, such as museums, historic sites and libraries, to meet these curricular needs.

Pennsylvania Department of Education Standards

The Commonwealth's education standards for each subject area are integrated into the Heritage Center Museum's programs. Relevant standards for each educational program are identified in materials that are provided to teachers. The majority of our programs achieve standards in subject areas beyond history, including reading, writing, speaking and listening, arts and humanities, family and consumer science, economics, geography and others.
