Professional Development for Teachers

The Heritage Center Museum offers a 1-credit course through Intermediate Unit #13. This course provides 30 Act 48 hours.

• Participating teachers will spend four sessions in a traditional classroom setting and one full day touring the county.
• Focus is to discover how and where to find local history resources, how to interpret them, and how to turn that information into meaningful classroom experiences for students.
• At the end of the course, teachers will share a lesson plan on a local history topic of their choice.
• A fee is assessed by Intermediate Unit #13.

Who:		Workshops benefit elementary and secondary teachers. Home schooling parents also are welcome to attend. Certified teachers will receive Act 48 hours.
When:		Workshops are usually held in the evenings or on Saturdays.
Credit hours:		Hours granted range from 3-6.
Cost:		Free

Not only are these workshops free, but we will manage the paperwork for applying for participation credit.

Education Advisory Committee

We strive to create educational programs that are meaningful, age appropriate, helpful to teachers, and relevant to curriculum.

To help us meet these goals, we have developed an advisory committee comprised of teachers. The diverse group, which meets semi-annually, includes educators with specialties that are relevant to the collections and programs at both museums. These specialties include mathematics, science, language arts, family and consumer science, art and social studies.
